Samenvatting As several collision warning radar systems will come on the automotive market this year, and as some manufacturers plan to propose radar systems on board, research is still carried out for a radar system that could avoid most longitudinal collision. Our approach is to suggest an original kind of signal coding and processing in order to meet the sensor requirement of low emitting power with high detection and high range covering with good resolution. The originality of the method resides in the use of pulse compression derived techniques with the help of signal coding by pseudo-random sequences (PRS). This correlation based receiver is studied in terms of Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) enhancement. Thanks to a Digital Signal Processor (DSP), a numerical correlator receiver has been implemented on a pulsed microwave radar prototype emitting pseudo random sequences. Tests which have been carried out have provided promising results.
