Samenvatting This paper considers the impact of new in-car devices on driver attention and perception and suggests a systematisation of distraction effects into categories of information processing: perceptual, central processes and motor actions. Changes in stress caused by new systems are examined with reference to stress level, strain homeostasis, mental effort and processing limits. The relation between these and performance is represented schematically. For the covering abstract see ITRD E113725 (C 22328 CD-ROM).
